The SICK UD18-22CC241 (6058911) is a specialized ultrasonic sensor designed for the high-precision detection of double layers and material splices. Operating on a sender-receiver principle, it utilizes high-frequency sound waves (400 kHz) to determine whether zero, one, or two layers of material are present between the sensors. Unlike optical sensors, the UD18 is unaffected by material color, transparency, or high-gloss surfaces, making it an ideal choice for monitoring shiny metal foils, transparent films, and various paper weights ranging from 20 g/m² to 2,000 g/m².

The device features a robust nickel-plated brass housing and is equipped with two NPN switching outputs for seamless integration into control systems.
